National competent authority - A public body designated by an EU Member State to supervise and enforce the EU Artificial Intelligence Act within its jurisdiction. These authorities operate independently and impartially to ensure compliance and coordination at national level. The Regulation requires Member States to establish ‘national competent authorities’ for the ‘application and implementation of this Regulation’. (EU AI Act, Art. 70)
