Market surveillance (in AI regulation) - The set of activities carried out by national authorities and the European Commission to ensure that AI systems made available on the market comply with legal requirements and do not endanger health, safety, or fundamental rights. The EU AI Act provides that authorities may conduct ‘joint activities, including joint investigations’ to promote compliance and address serious risks. (EU AI Act, Art. 74(11); Recital 160).
